Who can license me or my agency to provide domestic violence treatment services? The UDVC does not license agencies to provide domestic violence treatment; This can only be done through the State of Utah, Department of Human Services, Office of Licensing. The UDVC does not give the personal credentials or licensure required to provide treatment of any kind. If you have questions about specific requirements related to the licensing and regulation of certain occupations and professions please contact DOPL (Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing). Do I have to be licensed or does my agency? The State of Utah does not license individuals to provide domestic violence treatment; they only license agencies or programs. Programs are licensed on an annual basis with periodic visits from a Licensing Specialist to monitor and provide technical assistance. Facilities licensed to provide domestic violence treatment must be in compliance with both the Core Rules and the Outpatient Treatment Program Rules. However, not all individuals working for a licensed program may conduct domestic violence treatment. For an individual to conduct domestic violence treatment within a licensed agency they must have the required credentials and document and complete specialized training in domestic violence assessment and treatment practices including 24 hours of pre-service training and 16 approved domestic violence related CEU's (Continuing Education Units) annually thereafter. The type of annual CEU's required of individuals providing domestic violence treatment are based upon their professional credentials. For example, if you are an LCSW your CEU's must be approved by NASW but if you are a psychologist your CEU's must be approved by UPA. *Please click on the underlined links above to visit the web pages for the agencies and rules referenced. |
